One sentenced to death for raping, killing fifth grader
A Kishoreganj court has sentenced a man to death for killing his fifth-grader sister-in-law after raping her in 2017.
Shaheen, 32, of Kishoreganj’s Nikli upazila, was also fined with Tk 1 lakh, said Chowdhury Moniruzzaman, the court inspector.
The Judge of Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 Kiron Shankar Halder delivered the verdict on Sunday.
According to the case statement, Shaheen who lived at his father-in-law’s house at Nabinpur in the upazila persuaded Roksana, the victim, to accompany him to a nearby crop field on the night of May 11, 2017.
He raped the girl, tied her hands and feet, killed her by forcing her head under water of a nearby ditch, and fled the scene.
The victim’s parents found the body the next morning, the statement says.
They filed a case with Nikli Police Station accusing Shaheen and two others later that day.
Police arrested Shaheen on August 8, 2017, and pressed charges on January 22, 2018.
The court acquitted the other two accused in the case.
