Oikyafront briefs foreign diplomats on political issues
The Jatiya Oikyafront, led by Dr Kamal Hossain, yesterday briefed foreign diplomats stationed in Dhaka about the country’s latest situation and current political issues, including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s health condition and Barrister Mainul Hosein’s jailing.
The two-hour long briefing, that began at 10:00am, was held in BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan’s Gulshan residence.
Apart from Kamal, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, its standing committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President ASM Abdur Rob, Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna and Gonoforum Executive President Subrata Chowdhury, among others, were present.
Diplomats from different countries, including the USA, the UK, the EU, Canada, and UNDP, attended the briefing.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Kamal said they discussed the country’s latest political situation with the diplomats. “They [the diplomats] wanted to know about the country’s overall situation from us and we presented our views.”
He further said that the country’s people, as well as foreigners, know what kind of national election was held on December 30.
“The foreign envoys have heard our statements in this regard.”
Abdur Rob said they exchanged views with the diplomats over various political issues of the country.
Subrata said the diplomats took note of their statements but did not make any comment on the political issues.
Another Oikyafront leader, preferring anonymity, said they informed the diplomats about Khaleda Zia’s deteriorating health condition and the developments in her cases, sending former caretaker government adviser Mainul Hosein to jail, the harassment of BNP leaders in various ‘false’ cases and their alliance’s stance on the last election.
