No security threat over Buddha Purnima: IGP
There is no specific security threat centring Buddha Purnima on May 18, said Inspector General of Police Mohammad Javed Patwary yesterday.
Special security measures have been taken in the Buddhist temples across the country for peaceful celebration of the religious event, the IGP added while attending a meeting with top officials of law enforcement agencies and Buddhist leaders at the police headquarters.
In the meeting, the IGP also directed the law enforcers to carry out block raids and set up check points along with taking other security measures ahead of the event.
Patwary also urged the law enforcers to increase surveillance to prevent rumors and misleading information on social media regarding the event.
He asked the Buddhist people not to carry any handbag or purse while visiting temples on security ground.
Earlier, different media outlets, citing foreign intelligence agencies, reported that terrorists may carry out attacks in the country during Buddha Purnima celebration.
