No one can leave station during Eid holidays
The government has decided not to extend the three-day Eid holiday and also not to allow the government employees to leave their workplaces amid the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.
"The three-day Eid holiday will not be extended further and no one can leave their respective workplaces or headquarters during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha," Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said at a press briefing after a cabinet meeting yesterday.
He said this replying to a question if there was any directive regarding the novel coronavirus.
The cabinet meeting was held with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair. She joined the meeting through videoconferencing from the Gono Bhaban, while other cabinet members were connected from the Bangladesh Secretariat.
NATIONAL HISTORIC DAY
The cabinet approved a proposal for declaring March 7 as the "National Historic Day" in a bid to observe the day nationally, commemorating the historic March 7 Speech of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
"The cabinet approved a proposal placed by the cultural affairs ministry to declare March 7 as the National Historic Day and include it in the 'Ka' Serial [list] of the gazette notification concerned," said the cabinet secretary.
Following a writ petition, the High Court had earlier issued a rule asking the government to explain why it should not be directed to declare March 7 as the National Historic Day, Anwarul said.
He said the Unesco included Bangabandhu's March 7 speech in the Memory of the World Register.
MEDICAL VERSITY IN KHULNA
The cabinet in principle approved the draft of Sheikh Hasina Medical University, Khulna Bill, 2020 for setting up a medical university in Khulna division, aiming to expand the facilities of medical education, research and healthcare services in the region.
"The bill has been designed in line with the laws of Rajshahi, Chattogram and Sylhet medical universities…. Actually, it is almost a prototype of other medical universities [of the country]," said the cabinet secretary.
Besides, the cabinet endorsed the draft of a proposed agreement for establishment of diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Palau, an archipelago in the Western Pacific Ocean.
