Murder case plaintiff ‘abducted, tortured’
The plaintiff of a murder case was allegedly abducted on Saturday, tortured overnight and forced to sign on a blank paper in Kurigram's Rowmari upazila.
Sheikh Farid, 23, son of Rafiqul Islam of Jhagrachar area in Showlmari union of the upazila, filed the case with Rowmari Police Station following the death of his father.
The perpetrators picked up Farid from Jhagrachar area of the Rowmari-Dhaka highway around 7:30pm on Saturday and confined him to a house, said the victim.
After he was released at dawn, Farid was admitted to Rowmari upazila health complex with injuries.
While talking to our correspondent at the health complex, Farid said he was on his way to Rowmari Police Station as he was called by Tuhin Mia, a sub-inspector of the police station and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case filed over the death of his father.
When he reached Jhagrachar, five to six men abducted him.
"They kept me in a house and tortured me overnight. They allowed me to leave the house early in the morning after taking my signature on a blank paper. Later, I was admitted to Rowmari hospital with injuries," he said.
"I know all those who abducted me. I gave their names to police," he said, adding that he would file a case with the police station after being treated at the hospital.
Dr Moktarul Islam Selim, a resident medical officer (RMO) of Rowmari upazila health complex, said the victim had suffered injuries to various parts of his body, including hands and feet.
Contacted, SI Tuhin Mia said Farid was supposed to meet him on Saturday night, the day of the incident, but he did not come.
After hearing of the incident on Sunday morning, the SI went to the hospital, met Farid and heard about his abduction in detail, he said.
Rowmari Police Station Officer-in-charge Abu Md Dilwar Hasan Inam said legal action would be taken if a complaint is filed with the police station in this regard.
Farid's father Rafiqul Islam was murdered over a land dispute at Char Baraikandi village of Rowmari upazila around noon on May 13 this year. He lodged a murder case with Rowmari Police Station accusing 10 persons on the same day.
The accused in the murder case are Mukul Mia,45, Abul Hossain, 50, Shakhawat Hossain, 38, Saidur Rahman, 32, their father Naibar Ali, 80, Saiful Islam, 28, Asad Ali, 27, Rasedul Islam, 25, Ashraful Islam,18, their parents Abul Hossain and Sabiya Begum, 48. All are of the same residence at Baraikandi village.
OC Dilwar Hasan Inam said the main accused Mukul Mia was arrested and is now in jail. Sabiya Begum got bail from the court, while the eight other accused are absconding.
