Muhith says he won't seek another term
Finance Minister AMA Muhith will retire after his current term and will not run in the upcoming election.
“I am going into retirement…. I will not be able to carry out my duty again as finance minister,” he told parliament yesterday.
He, however, said “I am not off, I am around.”
Speaking on a thanksgiving motion, Muhith, 84, also said he would not seek reelection anymore.
“Therefore, this is my last speech in parliament,” he added.
A renowned economist, diplomat, Language Movement hero and a freedom fighter, Muhith was first Finance and Planning Minister in 1981-82.
He has been the finance minister of the current Awami League government since 2009.
