The country is likely to experience medium to heavy rains today and tomorrow following a brief spell of rain that brought relief from the scorching heat in the capital and elsewhere yesterday.
"There may be medium to heavy rains in the north-eastern region of Bangladesh as well as neighbouring Assam, Meghalaya and Tripura of India in the next 48 hours," said a weather bulletin released at 9:00am yesterday.
"The water level of all major rives in the north-eastern region may rise quickly in the next 72 hours," said the bulletin issued by Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre.
In a separate bulletin at 9:00am yesterday, Bangladesh Meteorological Department said different parts of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet are likely to experience today rains and thundershowers, accompanied by gusty wind.
"The day temperature may fall slightly all over the country," it mentioned.
