Man arrested for raping, blackmailing college student
A Satkhira court has sent a man to jail on charges of raping a college student, recording the incident and subsequently embezzling money by blackmailing her.
Police arrested the accused -- Abdul Hye Raju, 26, of Kaliganj upazila in the district -- on Tues-day and placed him before a court after the victim filed a case with Kaliganj Police Station on the same day.
Threatening the girl of spreading rape footage via social media, Raju so far embezzled Tk 1.70 lakh and a laptop from her, the victim alleged.
According to the case statement, Raju and the girl were introduced to each other by one of their mutual friends around six months ago. Later, they built up a good relationship. On April 14, the duo was travelling from Dhaka to their native home -- Satkhira. At one point, when they got down from the bus, Raju took the girl to his relative’s house and raped her at knife-point.
Raju filmed the rape scene and started blackmailing the girl. After taking Tk 1.70 lakh and a laptop, Raju demanded Tk 2 lakh over phone on May 22. Then the girl informed the matter to her family members. Later, the case was filed and further actions were taken, the case state-ment added.
Raju claimed that he had love affair with the girl and she filed a false case against him as things were getting bad between them.
Contacted, SM Azizul Islam, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kaliganj Police Station, said Raju had admitted the incident in primary interrogation.
The laptop that Raju took from the victim has been rescued, he added.
