That jailer lands in jail
Sohel Rana Biswas, the jailer who has recently been arrested with over Tk 44 lakh, fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) and Phensedyl, was produced before a Kishoreganj court yesterday evening.
Sohel, who worked as a jailer at Chattogram Central Jail, was arrested by police Friday noon and produced before the court of Senior Chief Judicial Magistrate in Kishoreganj with a remand prayer for seven days around 6:30pm, court inspector Toufiq Ahmed said.
The court fixed tomorrow to hear the remand prayer and sent Sohel to jail, said the court inspector.
Sohel was travelling to his home town Mymensingh by Bijoy Express from Chattogram when police, acting on information, raided the train at Bhairab Railway Station around 1:30pm. They recovered 12 bottles of Phensedyl from Sohel's bag, said Md Abdul Mazid, officer-in-charge of Government Railway Police (GRP) in Bhairab.
Police also recovered Tk 44.43 lakh in cash, FDRs of around Tk 2.50 crore deposited with different banks and bank cheques issued in favour of him totaling around Tk 1.30 crore from the bag, the OC said.
Additional Superintendent of Railway Police Md Mohibul Islam and Additional Superintendent of police Faruq Ahmed, both from Dhaka interrogated Sohel at Bhairab Railway Police Station, the OC added.
Two cases were filed against Sohel with the police station under the Money Laundering Act and the Narcotics Control Act.
