Int’l flights to start late June
The government has planned to resume regular passenger flight operations on international routes on a limited scale from third week of June after over two-and-a-half-months of suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
"The specific date and time will be informed on June 14," Mohibul Haque, senior secretary to the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, told The Daily Star yesterday.
"At the beginning, we have planned to resume flights of Biman Bangladesh Airlines on Dhaka-London route on any day in the third week of June," he said, adding, "Later, we will increase flight operations on other international routes."
The senior secretary also said the decision over other airlines had not been taken yet but Qatar Airlines was willing to operate transit flights from Bangladesh to other destinations.
"They have applied for this which will be decided after consulting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Mohibul Haque also said.
However, Qatar Airlines has not yet agreed to carry passengers from Bangladesh to Qatar right at this moment except other destinations through using Doha as transit, he added.
Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman, chairman of Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh, said they were also planning to resume flights on one or two routes in Middle East.
The government earlier resumed regular passenger flight operation on three domestic routes on limited scale from June 1.
