Girl gang-raped in Gazipur
A Gazipur court yesterday sent four young men to jail on charges of gang-raping a girl in Cherag Ali area of Tongi on Friday night.
The suspects were arrested at the scene of the crime, thanks to prompt response of police, said Jahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Tongi Police Station, reports our correspondent in the district.
Truckers Nayan, 18, of Munshiganj; Shahab Uddin, 20, of Barishal; Babu Mandal, 20, of Jamalpur; and Tofazzal, 19, of Mymensingh, had admitted raping the girl on the flatbed of a truck around midnight, he added.
Grieving family members said the girl and her younger brother were coming home from a wedding by an auto-rickshaw around 11:45pm when the four men stopped them at Haque intersection.
The men then tied her brother to a nearby tree and forced her to climb onto a parked truck and raped her, they added.
The auto-rickshaw puller, meanwhile, rushed to Tongi Police Station and told officers what had happened, police said.
A team of police then went to the spot and rescued the woman and her brother.
The woman’s father filed a case accusing the suspects hours later.
In Bogura’s Dupchanchia upazila, police yesterday arrested a man on charges of raping his daughter-in-law multiple times over the last five months, reports our correspondent in the district.
The 40-year-old suspect, a village quack, is accused of raping the 19-year-old woman, who was married to his son eight months ago, said Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia Police Station.
According to a case filed by her husband, the suspect used to tell the woman every time he raped her that he was possessed by a genie.
He also threatened to kill her if she told anyone about it.
