Five killed in Gopalganj road crash
Five construction workers were killed and seven others injured as a bus hit a human haulier in Gopalganj's Kashiani upazila yesterday morning.
The dead are Sumon Munshi, 20, Bodiar Mollah, 30, Mizan Fakir, 50, Layek Fakir, 50, and Sirazul Islam Mollah, 30, said police.
The dead and the injured are residents of Tita village in Kashiani upazila. They were passengers of the human haulier, locally known as nasimon.
Quoting locals, Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said the accident took place on Dhaka-Khulna highway when the Dhaka-bound bus rammed the nasimon near Pona bus stand around 7:30am.
One died on the spot and 11 others were wounded. Two of them died at Kashiani Upazila Health Complex and two others on the way to Faridpur Medical College Hospital and Gopalganj Sadar Hospital.
The injured are undergoing treatment at Faridpur Medical College Hospital, the OC said.
Police seized the bus, but its driver managed to flee the spot, he added.
