Father, son found dead in a city flat
Police recovered the hanging bodies of a man and his son from a Moghbazar flat in the capital last evening.
The deceased were identified as Khairul Islam Sohag, 55, and his son Shaharat Islam Areen, 14, said Selim Shahriar Jibon, sub-inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station.
The bodies were recovered from separate rooms of the flat on the fourth floor of a building at Nayatola around 5:30pm and later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for autopsy, said the SI.
"We found the hanging bodies of Khairul and Shaharat tied to ceiling fans with a piece of cloth in their rooms," said the police official.
SI Selim further said Khairul's wife Najmun Nahar Nupur, who had gone out for shopping, found the house door locked from the inside after she returned home in the afternoon, and then informed police.
The police official said Areen was a differently abled boy, while his father Khairul developed a mental illness six months earlier due to the loss of his business. He was being treated at a hospital.
Khairul, hailing from Ramganj of Laxmipur, used to live in the rented flat in Nayatola area with his wife and son, said the police officer.
Police suspected that Khairul may have killed himself after killing his son, said the SI, adding that the exact cause behind their deaths will be known after getting the autopsy reports.
