Duta Polls: Landslide win for pro-AL teachers
Pro-Awami League faculty members yesterday secured a landslide victory in Dhaka University Teachers’ Association election.
Their panel named Blue bagged 14 of the 15 posts in executive committee. The White panel of BNP and Jamaat supporting teachers won only the post of vice president.
Prof ASM Maksud Kamal was elected president for the fourth consecutive time with 933 votes. His White panel opponent Prof Laila Noor Islam got 438 votes.
Prof Nizamul Hoque Bhuiyan, provost of Haji Muhammad Mohsin Hall, was elected general secretary with 729 votes, defeating White panel contestant Prof Hasanuzzaman who got 643 votes.
Prof Lutfor Rahaman of White panel was elected vice-president, winning with a narrow margin of three votes. He defeated Prof Sadeka Halim who got 681 votes.
Prof Z M Parvez Sazzad was elected joint secretary and Prof Muhammad Abdul Moyeen treasurer.
All of the 10 membership posts of the executive committee were won by Blue panel teachers Prof Aftab Ali Shaikh, Prof Nisar Hosain, Prof Zinat Huda, Prof Ziaur Rahman, Prof K M Saiful Islam Khan, Prof Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Prof Mohammad Amzad Ali, Prof Soumitra Shekhar, Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam and Prof Zakia Parveen.
A total of 1,434 of 2,011 teachers cast their vote at DU Teachers’ Club.
