Dispute over money led to teen killing
Dispute over money led to the killing of teenage boy Suman Mia, whose decomposed body was recovered from a septic tank of a mosque in Rangpur’s Kaunia upazila on Friday, 11 days after he had gone missing.
Police said this at a press briefing at Haragachh Police Station yesterday, where many high up police officials including Rangpur Metropolitan Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shahidullah Kawsar were present.
On Sunday, a team of Rangpur police arrested prime suspect Mohammad Lion, 21, a trader, also son of Mohammad Mohir of Kashaitari village, from Dinajpur’s Parbatipur upazila.
During primary interrogation, Lion confessed that he used to loan Sumon, 18, money but he planned to kill Sumon as the latter wasn’t repaying his debt, police said.
As per plan, Lion called Sumon over phone and asked him to come near Haragachh municipality pond on December 17.
As soon Sumon arrived there, Lion hit him on the head with a bamboo, leaving him dead on the spot.
The culprit later dumped Sumon’s body inside the septic tank of a nearby mosque and left the scene.
Earlier on Friday, police recovered Sumon’s body from a septic tank in Rangpur’s Kaunia upazila.
Victim’s brother Belal Hossain filed a case with Haragachh Police Station in this regard, OC Nazmul Quader said.
