Cops seize huge amount of medicines in Bogura
Police yesterday seized huge amount of medicines and held a man for storing those illegally in Bogura.
More than 100 types of medicines and different medical equipments, worth more than Tk 1 crore, were illegally stored at a residential building in Bogura town's Mofiz Paglar Mor, said police, adding that the medicines were meant to be distributed at free of cost among patients at different government hospitals.
The list of medical equipment that were seized from the building includes surgical instruments, pathological kits, saline, injection syringes and others, said SM Bodiuzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bogura Police Station.
The detainee -- Mizanur Rahman Robin, 28, of the district's Sariakandi upazila -- used to illegally stockpile the government-provided medicines and medical equipments to sell those at his medical store, Robin Trade International, that obtained no licence, the OC added.
Acting on a tip-off, police conducted a raid at the building around 11:30am and seized the medicines and medical equipments. Those were stored in three floors of the seven-storey residential building, the OC further said.
Samir Hosen Mishu, acting civil surgeon of the district, said they would form a probe committee to investigate how Robin managed to buy the government-provided medicines and which corrupt government employees were involved in such activities.
