Cops forced victim to marry rapist
A probe body of Pabna district administration has found that police officials indeed forced a gang-rape victim to marry one of the rapists.
The three-member committee, led by Additional District Magistrate Jahid Newaz, also found that the girl was raped several times, Kabir Mahamud, deputy commissioner of Pabna, told journalists yesterday.
The probe report was sent to the cabinet division last night, the DC added.
The committee also found that police had tried to “destroy evidence”, he said without elaborating.
On Thursday, the district administration formed the probe committee following a directive from the cabinet division.
The victim filed a case last week accusing five people of confining her to a room and raping her multiple times between August 29 and August 31.
Police have arrested all the accused -- Russel, Shariful Islam Ghontu, Hossain, Osman and Sanju.
Meanwhile, Obaidul Haque, officer-in-charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station, were closed and Ekramul Haque, sub-inspector of the same police station, was suspended on Thursday for arranging the marriage of the victim inside the police station.
