Anwarul made new cabinet secy
Senior Secretary to Bridges Division Khandker Anwarul Islam was made the cabinet secretary yesterday.
Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette in this regard, mentioning that the order would come into effect immediately.
Khandker Anwarul Islam has replaced Mohammad Shafiul Alam.
Shafiul will be serving as alternative executive director of the World Bank from November 1 for next three years, according to a separate gazette published by the public administration ministry.
Current alternative executive director of the World Bank Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan’s tenure will end in October.
The newly appointed Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam joined civil service in 1983.
He became secretary on January 31, 2013 and senior secretary on July 13, 2017. He is also the ex-officio executive director of Bangladesh Bridge Authority.
Before this, he worked in the cabinet division as additional secretary.
He joined Bridges Division under the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges as secretary (in-charge) from November 13, 2011.
Anwarul Islam earned his BSS (hons) and MSS in social welfare from the University of Dhaka. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in development planning.
