9-year-old raped in Tangail

A nine-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a neighbour in Kalihati upazila of Tangail on Thursday evening.

Victim’s mother filed a case with Kalihati Police Station accusing one Shahidul Islam, 52, yesterday, said Hasan Al Mamun, officer-in-charge of the police station.

According to the case statement, Shahidul took the girl to a secluded place near their houses by luring her with chocolates and raped her.

Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the girl, but Shahidul managed to escape, the OC said, adding that police arrested him on the same night. 

He was sent to jail through a Tangail court yesterday, he said.

The girl is currently receiving treatment at Tangail General Hospital, said the OC.
