4-year-old killed after rape

A four-year-old girl was killed after being raped allegedly by a neighbour in Chuadanga’s Damurhuda upazila on Saturday night.

Police recovered the body ofSumaiya Khatun from an orchard near her home in Parkrishnapur area around 11:00pm.

Mominul Haque, 28, a landless farmer of the same village, was arrested yesterday. He later told police that he had choked the toddler to death after raping her, said Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of Damurhuda Model Police Station.

He added that officers were interrogating the suspect and more would be known about him later.

Sumaiya’s father Nasir Uddin, a carpenter, said his daughter came home from school around 12:00pm on Saturday and left home to play in the neighbourhood shortly afterwards.

As she had not returned home after several hours, her parents started looking for her around 4:30pm and called the police later that night, Nasir said.

A team of police and villagers then found her body in the orchard, he added.

Her body was sent to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.

Nasir filed a case with Damurhuda Model Police Station yesterday afternoon. 

Meanwhile, a three-and-half-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a teenager in the city’s Bosila area yesterday afternoon, reports our staff correspondent.

The victim was sent to one-stop crisis centre at Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment and tests.

Police detained the 14-year-old boy, an employee of a shop, in that area after victim’s family filed a complained with police, said Sub-Inspector Altaf Hossain of Mohammadpur Police Station.

Quoting the victim’s family, the police officer said the accused lured the girl with chocolate into his shop around 12:30pm and raped her.

Learning about the incident, the family detained the shop employee and informed police, he said.
