3 more die of dengue
Three more people, including two schoolchildren, died of dengue fever in Chattogram and Barishal in the last two days.
With them, the unofficial death toll from the disease this year now stands at 147 against the official figure of 60.
In Chattogram, Dawmya Ching Marma, 35, died at a private hospital in the city around 4:00am yesterday, reports our staff correspondent, quoting doctors.
She was the wife of U Hla Ching Marma, chairman of Ruma upazila in Bandarban.
Dawmya was admitted to Centre for Specialised Care and Research (CSCR) with fever on Tuesday, said Dr Nahid Hassan, resident medical officer at the hospital.
She was diagnosed with dengue in Bandarban and took treatment at a hospital there before being shifted to the CSCR.
She developed hemorrhagic fever on Wednesday and was shifted to the ICU, said the physician.
In Barishal, Suraiya Begum, 14, died of dengue at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital (SBMCH) around 7:00am yesterday. She was a student of class-VIII from Padma village in Barguna’s Patharghata upazila, reports our Barishal correspondent.
Suraiya was admitted to the hospital on Tuesday night, said Akhirunnesa, in-charge of the dengue ward at the hospital.
Earlier, Farhad Hossain Jihad, 14, a seventh-grader from Barishal’s Muladi upazila, died of dengue at the SBMCH on Wednesday afternoon.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, 750 patients were admitted to different hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours till 8:00am yesterday.
With the new cases, the number of hospitalised dengue patients rose to 79,367 this year. Of them, 44,438 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka.
