Twenty-four people have died from Covid-19 in 24 hours preceding 8:00am yesterday, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

This took the reported death toll to 5,723.

In the same 24 hours, 1,545 people tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total number of officially acknowledged infections to 3,93,131.

Yesterday's positive cases were reported after testing 14,086 samples in 110 laboratories. The positivity rate was 10.97 percent.

The overall positivity rate is now 17.82 percent.

Meanwhile, 1,704 Covid-19 patients recovered and the total number of recoveries from Covid-19 was 3,08,845 as of yesterday. The recovery rate is 78.56 percent of the confirmed cases.

Of those reported dead yesterday, 19 were male and five female. All of them, except one, died in hospitals.

One of them was aged between 21 and 30 years, two were between 41 and 50, eight between 51 and 60, and 13 over 60, added the release.

One each was from Rangpur and Khulna divisions while two were from Rajshahi, three from Chattogram and 17 from Dhaka divisions.

Over 51 percent of the people who died so far were from Dhaka division.

Yesterday afternoon, 2,369 Covid-19 patients were undergoing treatment on general beds and 279 on ICU beds at designated hospitals across the country.
