2 lands in jail over rape of woman
A Mymensingh court yesterday sent two persons to jail for their alleged involvement in a rape incident of a woman in the district’s Sadar upazila on Thursday night.
The accused are Ujjal Mia, 22, and Hasin Akter, 50.
Khandaker Shaker Ahmed, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Kotwali Police Station, said the victim’s father filed a case against five people, including Ujjal and Hasin, on Thursday alleging their involvement in the rape.
According to the case statement, the victim was returning home from one of her relatives’ place on Wednesday evening. On the way, a group of men forcibly took her into a bamboo cluster and raped her.
Before the criminals took her into the bamboo cluster, the girl managed to reach a nearby home, residence of Hasin, and sought help. Hasin, however, did not pay a hid and pushed her back.
Later, the criminals took the girl into an abandoned house and raped her again, the case statement added.
Hearing the incident, the victim’s family members took her to local police station and filed a case.
In the case, Hasin was accused of helping the criminals who raped the girl.
According to OC Khandaker Shaker Ahmed, Ujjal already confessed his deeds before the court.
“Ujjal’s confessional statement was recorded under section 164,” he said.
Police were trying to arrest all the criminals involved in the rape incident, he added.
