17-year-old 'gang-raped' in Cox's Bazar
A 17-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped at Dhaniakata of Cox's Bazar's Pekua upazila early yesterday.
Police detained three suspects -- Ali Hossain, Md Tareq and Abu Siddique -- in this connection.
Sub-Inspector of Pekua Police Station Ashikur Rahman said they were trying to nab three others -- Mizanur Rahman, Md Zunaid, and Nezam Uddin.
Family and police sources said the teenager boarded a CNG-run-three wheeler to go to her relative's house at Dhoniakata of Toitang union on Tuesday noon. The vehicle's driver, Zunayed, then picked up more passengers, including Ali Hossain and some others.
After driving around for a while, he took the girl to a graveyard at Purbapara of Dhonia Kata where six to seven persons allegedly raped her. Hearing her screams, locals rushed to the spot and rescued the teenager, after which they informed the police.
A police team led by SI Ashikur arrested Ali Hossain following the girl's statement.
Police said Tarek and Siddique were detained when they tried to prevent police from picking up Ali.
Officer-in-Charge of the station Zakir Hossain Bhuiyan said the girl had been taken to Cox's Bazar district hospital for a medical check-up.
