1 arrested, five sued over rape
Police yesterday arrested a man in Bogura’s Sherpur upazila for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl who later became pregnant.
The accused -- Fatik Khan, 35, a resident of the upazila -- is a night guard by profession, said police.
Gaziur Rahman, additional superintendent of Sherpur police, said the victim’s father filed a case with Shepur Police Station in this connection.
According to the case statement, Fatik forcibly took the girl to his home in May and raped her. He later blackmailed and raped her on several occasions.
Fatik also threatened the girl with dire consequences if she divulged the matter. In the end of August, the victim’s family figured out that she was pregnant. Asked, she told her family about the rape, the case statement added.
During primary interrogation, the accused confessed that he raped the girl, said the police official.
Humayan Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Sherpur Police Station, said the accused would be produced before a court today.
Meanwhile, five youths were sued over gang rape of a woman in Pirojpur’s Mathbaria upazila.
The victim filed a case against three named and two unnamed youths with Mathbaria Police Station, said Syed Abdullah, officer-in-charge of the police station.
The named accused are Raju Hawlader, 25, Sumon Khan, 22, and Imran Hawlader, 20.
According to the case statement, the accused picked up the woman on her way to home from work. They forcibly took her to the rooftop of a nearby community clinic and raped her.
At one stage, the accused fled the scene sensing presence of locals.
