Man kills wife, father-in-law in Pirojpur
A man allegedly stabbed his wife and father-in-law to death in Indurkani village of Pirojpur last night.
Police have arrested the accused, Apan Shareng of Shariatpur's Naria upazila, over the incident.
The deceased were identified as Jahangir Fakir, 40, and his daughter Ripa, 21. Jahangir's another daughter Hira, 14, was also injured in the incident.
Apan, a mason, married Ripa around seven years ago. They were living in their rented house in the village. For the last few years, Apan allegedly had been torturing Ripa for dowry.
The couple was fighting over the matter and was set to take part in an arbitration today, said locals and police sources.
Around 8:30pm yesterday, Jahangir and his two daughters -- Ripa and Hira – were returning home from Parerhat Bazar area when Apan allegedly swooped on the trio with a sharp weapon near Parerhat Sea Police Outpost, said police, quoting witnesses.
Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot, caught Apan and handed him over to police.
The locals also rescued the father and his two daughters and took them to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Jahangir and Ripa dead.
Shakil Sarwar, on-duty doctor at the hospital, said the two were dead on arrival.
