Unidentified assailants hacked a schoolgirl at her house in Sirajdikhan upazila of Munshiganj on Tuesday.

With critical injuries, Tahmina Akter, 15, a tenth-grader at Roshunia High School, has been undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Family members said she took part in an exam that day and was on her way home. As soon as she arrived at their home yard, the assailants hacked her from behind.

The attackers had left the scene before her family members, who could not say anything about the motive, realised what was going on, reports our Munshiganj correspondent.

Recently, Khadiza Begum Nargis, a Sylhet Government Women's College student, has been brutally hacked by Badrul Alam, a fourth-year student of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (Sust) and also senior assistant secretary of Bangladesh Chhatra League of the university unit.

The gruesome attack was carried out on the campus of Murari Chand College, popularly known as MC College, where she went to take part in an exam.

Tahmina's father Tofizuddin Hawlader quoting a neighbour said two to three attackers wearing masks swooped on his daughter. Family members rushed her to a local hospital, from where she was shifted to Dhaka, he added.

Yardaus Hasan, officer-in-charge of Sirajdikhan police, said an unknown youth hacked her in the back of her head. Police are trying to identify the youth, he added.

The OC said Tahmina's schoolmates told them that a few months ago she slapped Selim, 18, of adjacent Doniapara village after he had proposed her.

Her schoolmates suspect Selim might have committed the attack.

The police raided Selim's house but did not find him there.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Shamsuzzaman Babu said they are investigating the incident and would get vital information once they talked with Tahmina.

He further said Tahmina's condition was improving.
