ACC sues two deed writers who 'amassed Tk 4cr in 6yrs'

The Anti-Corruption Commission has filed a case against two deed writers in Sirajganj's Ullapara upazila for amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.

On December 28, it filed the case against Alamgir Hossain, secretary of Ullapara Deed Writers Association, and his associate Anwar Hossain after it found the two had accumulated Tk 4.21 crore in six years.

Alamgir went into hiding soon after the case was filed, said Dewan Kawshik Ahmed, officer-in charge of Ullapara Police Station.

Anwar, however, was arrested.

According to Alamgir's bank statement, he had deposited Tk 2.16 crore between November 29, 2011, and June 28, 2017.

During this period, he withdrew Tk 1.82 lakh, said Md Saidur Rahman, assistant director of ACC and the investigation officer of the case.

“We sent him a notice thrice to record his statement regarding the sources of the money, but he did not appear,” said Saidur.

The ACC also found Tk 2.5 crore in Anwar's account. He had also withdrawn Tk 1.99 crore from the account, he said.

Saidur said, “A deed writer's income is not that lucrative that he would have such an amount in his account.”

“Police are currently trying to arrest Alamgir,” said Dewan.
