6 to die for killing child
A Mymensingh court yesterday sentenced six people to death for killing an eight-year-old boy, Farhad, over a family feud in Muktagacha upazila in 2010.
The court also awarded a woman life-term imprisonment in the murder case.
The death penalty awardees are Abdul Quddus, 60, his son Saheb Ali, 35, Ibrahim alias Ibra, 55, his son Mohammad Jewel, 35, Abdul Majid Madhu, 70, son of Gahor Sheikh, Montaz Ali Monta, 60, son of Kasimuddin, hailing from Kheruajani village in Muktagacha upazila, said Court Inspector Nowjesh Ali Miah.
Of the death convicts, Saheb Ali was tried in absentia, he said.
The court also gave life-term imprisonment to Saheb's mother Kamola Khatun, 50.
According to the case statement, there had been a feud between Ayub Ali of Kheruajani village and the convicts of the same village over land and family affairs.
Following the conflict, the convicts abducted Farhad, son of Ayub, on May 4, 2010. Later, they killed the boy and dumped the body, wrapped in a polythene bag, into a deep hole near the house of Ayub, court sources said.
Locals found the body on May 7, 2010 and informed the police.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
On the day, victim's father Ayub lodged a murder case with Muktagacha Police Station.
After investigation, Sub-Inspector Omar Ali, investigating officer of the case, pressed charges against the seven convicts.
After examining the witnesses and evidence, Mohammad Johirul Kabir, judge of additional district and sessions judge's court-2, delivered the verdict.
Ayub, the plaintiff of the case, expressed his satisfaction with the verdict as his son's killers got punishment.
