Four members of a family were killed by electrocution in Bauphal upazila yesterday.
The dead are Abdul Hay, 50, his daughters Dina, 25, Mohua alias Bina, 21, and his brother-in-law (sister's husband) Ibrahim Khalil, 45.
A live electric wire was snapped suddenly and fell into a pond in Dhalapara village around 11:00am. Later, some fishes were found floating dead in the pond, police said, quoting the victims' family.
Hay and Khalil came into contact with the wire and died on the spot when they were collecting the fishes around 12:30pm. Hay's two daughters met the same fate as they tried to rescue Hye and Khalil, said ASM Masuduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Bauphal Police Station.
Meanwhile, the authorities of Patuakhali Palli Bidyut Samity suspended Siddiqur Rahman, in charge of its Kalishury office, for his alleged negligence of duty in connection with the incident.
The Samity also formed a three-member probe body, headed by its Deputy General Manager Shah Alam, to investigate the incident and asked the body to submit its report within three days.
They already started work in this regard, the probe body chief said, adding that departmental steps would be taken against the persons responsible for the incident if there were any.
Foez Ahmed, additional superintendent of police in Patuakhali, visited the spot.
