1.6 lakh Yaba tablets seized, 11 detained

In separate drives, Border Guard Bangladesh seized over 1.61 lakh Yaba tablets and detained 11 people, including three Myanmarese citizens, in Teknaf upazila early yesterday.

The pills worth around Tk 4.87 crore.

BGB sources said acting on a tip-off, a patrol team, led by BGB-42 Battalion Commander Abu Jar Al Jahid, raided the bank of Naf river in the upazila around 5:00am.

The three Myanmarese nationals were detained along with over 1.25 lakh Yaba tablets there.

They are Omar Faruk, 30, son of Abdur Rashid, Mohammad Jamir, 40, son of Sheikh Ahmed and Mohammad Rafique, 21, son of Abdur Rashid Ahmed.  They hail from Mongdu area in Akiab of Myanmar.

Around an hour earlier, another BGB team, led by Maj Abu Russel Siddique, deputy commander of the same battalion, raided the house of alleged Yaba trader Enamul Haque at Nasirpara area.

Over 30,000 tablets, a locally-made pistol were seized and six people, including Enamul, were held from the spot.

The other detainees were identified as Mohammad Ilias, Rezaul Karim, Nurul Alam, Farid Alam and Mohammad Emran.

Around 1:00am, BGB members raided Shilbonia Para in Teknaf municipality acting on a tip-off and detained two persons along with 5,077 Yaba tablets.

 They are Nurul Amin, 38, son of Ahmed Ali, and Md Hossain, 32, son of Nur Mohammad of the area.

Three separate cases were filed against the detainees and they were being handed over to police, said Abu Jar Al Jahid.

On April 7, BGB seized some 2.30 lakh yaba tablets, worth around Tk 7 crore, in an abandoned condition from the same upazila.
