AL leader killed in Chandpur
A local leader of ruling party Awami League was killed by miscreants in Sadar upazila of Chandpur last night.
The deceased was identified as Azizur Rahman Bhutto (50), former vice-president of Shah mahmudpur union AL in Chandpur Sadar upazila, said Mizanur Rahman, additional superintendent (ASP) of Chandpur police.
Witnesses told our Chandpur correspondent that Azizur came under attack from a group of miscreants in Kumardugi area around 9:30pm while he was returning home from a local bazar on a motorcycle.
The attackers attacked him with sharp weapons and left him critically injured.
Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and took Azizur to Chandpur Sadar hospital, where doctors declared him dead, said ASP Mizanur.
None was arrested in this regard as of the filing of this report, our Chandpur correspondent said quoting the police official.
Zahed Parvez Chowdhury, another additional ASP of Chandpur police, said Azizur might have been killed by his rivals over land related disputes.
"We are looking into the matter," he added.
