Astami Snan begins in N'ganj
The two-day annual Astami Snan, one of the largest religious festivals of the Hindus, started early yesterday in the river Brahmaputra at Langalbandh in Narayanganj with due respect and solemnity.
The Snan Utshab (a festival of taking a dip in the river) beginning at 14 ghats along the river at 1:55am yesterday will end at 2:55am today, said Langalbandh Snan Utshab Udjapan Parishad President Paritosh Kanti Saha.
The organisers hope that more than 15 lakh devotees from home and abroad will take part in the festival.
Narayanganj police have taken security measures on the occasion.
