Asian Games Hockey cut to 8 teams
The Asian Games Hockey Qualifiers have been reduced to an eight-nation meet after Afghanistan and Thailand recently pulled out of Bangladesh's group, informed the Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF) general secretary Khaza Rahmatullah yesterday.
Bangladesh were placed in Group A along with Singapore, Hong Kong, Afghanistan and Thailand but the pullout of the latter two reduced Group A to a three-team group while Group B remained the same with five nations -- Oman, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei, Qatar and Iran.
“We still don't know whether the Asian Hockey Federation will revise both groups as it turned into an eight-nation meet. We are waiting for their response,” said Rahmatullah
The Qualifiers are scheduled to take place in Bangladesh from March 15 to 23 and the six top teams are supposed to advance to the Asian Games to be held in September in South Korea.
