Truth and beauty through Mad Theatre's 'Noddiyo Notim'
Mad theatre, a repertory team created in 2015, sends out a thought-provoking message through their play Noddiyo Notim. Asadul Islam, founder of Mad Theatre, started this journey with his wife Sonia and daughter Meghdut, and since then they have done 42 plays all over the world. Their love towards theatre inspired them to work with Shubochon Nattyo Sangshad for 25 years.
However, Noddiyo Notim is their play which previously was exhibited in India and the UK. They have done two shows in Guwahati, Assam and also in London.
Noddiyo Notim is based on beloved writer Humayun Ahmed's novel Ke Kotha Koye. The play mainly revolves around three characters which are played by Asad, Sonia and Meghdut themselves. The story manifests a relationship between a poet, Motin Uddin, and a special child. Motin Uddin spelled backwards in Bangla is Noddiyo Notim, and he sacrifices his life to show the kid the beauty and truth of this world.
“This particular novel of Humayun Ahmed is very different. The message that we get from this novel is quite impactful in today's society. Since we, as a family, act in this play, it is very special to us,” says Asadul Islam.
Asadul Islam, a banker by profession, is also a poet and his wife Sonia, Mad theater's co-founder, is a full time theatre person now who started her journey in theatre in 1998. She is also pursuing her Phd in Comperative Literature from Assam University. Theatre is a vital part of their life. They are hopeful about finding the same zeal in today's young generation. “We need to create a space, where people can take this as a profession and not just a hobby,” says Sonia Hasan.
Yesterday, the troupe conducted their 42nd show at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
