10-day long theatre fest begins at JU

A ten-day inter-university theatre festival began yesterday at Jahangirnagar University (JU).

Jahangirnagar Theatre (JT) organised the programme marking its 38th founding anniversary, said Nazmul Hasan, convener of the festival and former-general secretary of the JT.

Prof. Bashir Ahmed, director of Teacher-Student-Centre (TSC) inaugurated the festival while president of JT Prof. Syed Kamrul Ahsan and general secretary of JU Teachers Association (JUTA) were present.

A total of seven public universities will perform nine plays at the inter-university theatre competition.

Marking the day, theatre activists brought out a colourful rally from the Amar Ekushey premises. Later, they paid their homage at the final resting place of Selim Al Deen.

 "Mukhora Romoni Boshikoron" was staged at Selim Al Deen Muktamancho by Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University on February 3.

On February 4, "Nishi Mon Bisorjon" was staged by the Drama and Dramatics Department of JU while "Manush" will be staged by Jahangirnagar Theatre on February 5.

Dik Theatre from SUST will stage "Cher Cycle" and Theatre and Performance Studies of DU will perform "Nil Dongshon" on February 6 and 7 on the campus.

"Hat Hodai" and "Moddho Rater Kobita o Gaan" will be staged by Jahangirnagar Theatre on February 8 and 9.

On February 10, "Letter to a Child Never Born" will be staged by BUET Drama Society while "Captain Hurray" by the Dramatics Department of Chittagong University will be staged on the concluding day on February 11.
