World Intellectual Property Day 2020 celebrated virtually
Bangladesh celebrated the World Intellectual Property Day 2020 recently, on a virtual platform. The programme was jointly organised by the Copyright office Bangladesh, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Government of Bangladesh and Center for Policy Research, Bangladesh.
Professor Dr M Kamal Uddin, Senior Partner & CEO, Centre for Policy Research, Bangladesh & Former Director (Head), Institute of Appropriate Technology (IAT), Bangladesh University of Engineering & Technology (BUET), Dhaka, Bangladesh was the keynote speaker. Professor Dr S Rama Rao, CEO of the IPDP – Intellectual Property Development Program, New York, USA & Former Director, World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Jafor Raja Chowdhury, Registrar of Copyright Office Bangladesh, Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Dhaka, Bangladesh and Md Abul Kalam Azad, Senior Partner, Centre for Policy Research, Bangladesh, Dhaka, Bangladesh were the other discussion lecturers, on the theme, 'Innovate for a Green Future', at the occasion.
Dr Kamal delivered a speech on how innovation and intellectual property rights can play a great role in opening a new pathway to a green future of Bangladesh. He discussed the present IP situation and innovation system of Bangladesh and showed the road map to develop the National Innovation System (NIS) that encourages and supports innovation and creativity in the country.
Dr Rao explained the importance of World Intellectual Property Day 2020, the role and function of WIPO in protecting and promoting intellectual property globally as well as its technical assistance to developing countries and LDCs, including Bangladesh in this field through its development agenda.
Jafor Raja Chowdhury said that the copyright infringement has become a normal phenomenon in the present digital environment, especially in the field of software.
