Three-day Selim Al Deen Utshab kicks off today
Selim Al Deen Utshab and the 8th National Conference of Bangladesh Gram Theatre will take place from today till November 3, at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
State Minister of Cultural Affairs KM Khalid, MP, will inaugurate the programme today. Thespian and film director Nasiruddin Yousuff will preside over the programme, which will be followed by an award giving ceremony and the inaugural session of the conference.
Several plays of Selim Al Deen will be staged throughout the programme. They are: Nimojjon (Bangla Theatre, Faridpur), Chaka (Ingit Theatre, Natore), Eti Potromita (Shantinagar Theatre, Jaipurhat) and Secret of History (Bunon Theatre, Savar).
Selim Al Deen was the founder chairperson of the Department of Drama and Dramatics at Jahangirnagar University. He was also one of the founding members of Dhaka Theatre. He won the Ekushey Padak in 2007 and Bangla Academy Award in 1984, among other notable accolades. He passed away in 2008.
