Television industry stands beside 1,150 workers
The television industry of Bangladesh is facing massive losses amid the coronavirus pandemic. TV shoots had resumed from May 17, with certain conditions, to compensate for the losses to some extent. However, the decision to resume shooting has been suspended for the time being.
Earlier, Iresh Zaker, President of the Television and Digital Programme Producers Association Bangladesh and Saju Muntasher, General Secretary of the association, had submitted their respective resignation letters. Now, both of them have withdrawn their resignations.
"We took this decision because in these critical times, we all need to stay together and help each other," shared Saju. Together with Actors' Equity Bangladesh, the Directors' Guild and Writers' Association, the Television and Digital Programme Producers Association Bangladesh supported 1,150 employees of the television community, including actors and production workers, keeping the Eid-Ul-Fitr festivities in mind.
The funds were collected from members of each association. Renowned artistes living in the US, including actor Tony Dias, also contributed to the initiative.
Last month, the four associations provided food and financial aid to 492 workers.
