RIFFS of remembrance
A group of guitarists gathered recently at Chobir Haat (an art market opposite Charukala, Faculty of Fine Arts on Dhaka University campus) to pay homage to the late Ayub Bachchu. Multiple guitars decorated the venue in a rather welcoming testament. The dedication and love for the late legend hung unconditionally heavy in the atmosphere. From the youth to the elderly, the crowd stood shoulder to shoulder during the tributary performance. Other instrumentalists were also present apart from the guitarists. A youth spoke a few words in memory of the maestro, but he could barely retain his tears as he too, deeply felt the absence of Ayub Bachchu. Music is a universal language which far exceeds the boundaries brought about by age, race, gender, etc, and Ayub Bachchu's music was no different. We will surely mourn the demise of AB, but at the same time, we must also realise that we were blessed to have his melodies ornate the many chapters of our lives.
