PM grants singer Akbar free treatment for life at BSMMU

Akbar, a noted singer of yesteryears, was admitted to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in August, due to diabetes and kidney disease. As his condition worsened, the singer was scheduled for an appointment in India in October.

Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recently granted the singer free treatment for life at BSMMU.

Television personality Hanif Sanket brought Akbar from obscurity to mass popularity, after giving him an opportunity to sing in his popular show, Ityadi.

According to the singer's wife Kaniz Fatema, Hanif Sanket contacted the Prime Minister's office regarding the singer's treatment and the PM provided him a grant of another BDT 2 lakhs, and granted him access to all kinds of treatment at BSMMU, free of cost. Earlier this month, the PM gave him a grant of BDT 2 lakhs and a savings certificate.

"We are going for his treatment in India on October 1 and the Prime Minister has helped us make all the necessary arrangements for the trip," shares Kaniz Fatema, asking for prayers on behalf of her husband.

"I am very grateful to the Prime Minister for helping someone like me," shared Akbar on his verified Facebook page. "We dare to dream amid all adversity because of people like her."

The singer is currently residing at his home in Mirpur.
