Open Call underway for a contemporary art project
Edge of Existence, an exclusive contemporary art project on environmental concern, is a significant part of the Art Festival 2019 Gazipur to be held at Bhawal Mirzapur Haji Jamir Uddin School and College, Gazipur from March 27 - 30. The festival will include an art camp, three exhibitions, several cultural programmes and a traditional folk art and craft fair. The ecological condition of the festival venue -- the second largest Sal forest area of Bhawal, Gazipur -- is now at stake due to unbridled deforestation, illegal encroachment of land, setting up of mills and factories, undertaking unplanned development, housing and business projects that are causing serious harm to the environment of the area. The theme for this year's festival is 'Beautiful Environment, Artistic Life.'
To participate in the art project, artists can send their short portfolios in PDF format (Maximum 15 MB) to the email: [email protected]
15 contemporary artists will be selected for the art project from this open call.
The deadline for submitting portfolios is March 17, 2019.
The organising committee will bear the cost for conveyance (Dhaka-Gazipur-Dhaka), publishing catalogue, food, accommodation, exhibitions and partial cost for buying art materials for the selected participating artists.
Award-winning visual artist Harun-ar-Rashid Tutul, also Assistant Professor at the Department of Graphic Design, University of Dhaka, is the curator of the art project. Dinar Sultana Putul and Zahangir Alom are co-curators of it.
The purpose of arranging the festival is to inspire a creative and humane generation through the practice of innovative arts from across the timelines; from cities to the remote countryside of Bangladesh. The festival aims to turn a true artistic get-together for the participating artists, art lovers, students and the local inhabitants.
