Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho election results
The biennial elections for Bangladesh’s television actors’ association – Obhinoy Shilpi Shongho – was held amongst much glitz and glamour on June 21 at the Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises where renowned actor Shahiduzzaman Selim was elected as the president in a landslide victory against opposition leader, actor Tushar Khan.
To serve alongside him, television and stage actor, Ahsan Habib Nasim was reelected as the general secretary for a second term. The newly elected panel will serve in their positions for the next two years.
Actors Rawnak Hasan and Anisur Rahman Milon were elected as joint secretaries, whereas actors Tania Ahmed, Abul Kalam Azad and Iqbal Babu were voted into vice president positions.
Newly appointed president, Shahiduzzaman Selim told The Daily Star, “We, television actors, are like a big family, and as such, we look forward to work together in the best interests of all actors through this organisation. I extend my love and appreciation towards everyone for voting for me.”
Senior actor Khairul Alam Shabuj presided over the elections as election commissioner. He was accompanied by playwright Brindaban Das and actor Masum Aziz. Out of 606 voters, 514 cast their ballots to elect an executive panel comprising of 21 posts. There was a total of 51 contestants for all contested positions.
“I am eternally grateful to all the artistes for reelecting me as the general secretary for a second term. I look forward to working with them and for them in the coming years.” said second-term general secretary Ahsan Habib Nasim.
The newly elected panel will be sworn into their positions shortly.
