A nostalgic Durga Puja for Bappa Mazumder
Celebrated singer and composer Bappa Mazumder has captured the hearts of millions, both as a solo artiste and with his band, Dalchhut. He looks back on his fond memories of Durga Puja in a candid chat with The Daily Star.
Bappa is the son of classical musicians Ustaad Barin Mazumder and Ila Mazumder. “My mother was the heart and soul of every festival that we celebrated. She looked after everything,” says Bappa. “Back in the day, all our friends and loved ones came over to our place during the Puja festivities, and Maa cooked for everyone. After her demise, nothing feels the same anymore. I miss those gatherings and spending quality time with my loved ones.”
He also spoke about visiting different mandaps with his friends.“Those beautiful memories are still embedded in my mind and thinking about them makes me emotional,” says a nostalgic Bappa. Unfortunately, due to his busy schedule, he misses the morning Puja offerings.
Bappa is currently working on a song, composed by Titas Kazi. Besides lending his vocals to the song, Bappa has done the music arrangement for it. Dalchhut is also working on their upcoming projects. Four of Bappa’s old hit songs, which have been rearranged and sung by new and promising singers, will be released on iflix soon. The artiste further informed that he has another pleasant surprise for everyone, which he does not want to announce just yet.
