Minu Momtaz’s family receives her body, actor laid to rest today
Veteran actor Minu Momtaz passed away yesterday night (Tuesday, September 22) at the capital's Green Life hospital due to COVID-19. Her body was kept at the morgue of the hospital since none of her relatives came to claim it. She was admitted to the hospital on September 4. The total hospital bill came at around BDT 5 lakhs. Later, Actors Equity helped to hand over her body to her family. "Several news portals reported that Minu Momtaz's body is in morgue and nobody came to receive it," informs Ahsan Habib Nasim, General Secretary, Actors Equity. "One out of her three sons passed away years ago. Another one of her sons is a brain stroke survivor, and the other lives in the USA. As a result, no immediate family members of the actor could take care of the issue."
According to Nasim, Minu Momtaz was suffering from kidney disease for a long time and during her recent treatment, she tested positive for COVID-19 and was taken to the ICU, where she breathed her last. "Actors Equity requested the hospital authorities for a discount on the bill. We handed over her body to her family only after that," says Nasim.
The actor's Janazah took place after Asr prayers today, and she was laid to rest at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals' Graveyard.
In 2018, Minu Momtaz was one of the three artistes to receive government aid of BDT 5 Lakhs for her treatment. The actor worked in several movies during the black and white era of Bangladeshi cinema. For the last four decades, she was working in television.
