Jared Leto’s Joker to return in the Snyder Cut of ‘Justice League’
Jared Leto is reportedly reprising his role as the Joker for Zack Snyder's Justice League – also known as the Snyder Cut.
The actor first took on the role of Batman's nemesis for "Suicide Squad" in 2016, alongside Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn.
According to latest reports, he is set to film new scenes for the Snyder Cut, although it is unclear how big his role will be.
Jared's return to the role may come as a surprise to fans, considering his portrayal wasn't entirely well-received - and Joaquin Phoenix gave an Oscar-winning performance as the Joker in the 2019 adaptation, directed by Todd Phillips.
"Justice League" underwent a lot of changes during its original production, most notably when Snyder abruptly exited the movie during post-production, just months ahead of its November 2017 release date. "Avengers" director Joss Whedon was subsequently hired to finish the film for Snyder in time for that date, but instead he ended up overseeing extensive reshoots intended to drastically change the story.
The end result was a film that released on time, but it underperformed at the box office.
Soon after, disappointed fans organised a campaign around the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut, intended to convince Warner Bros to greenlight a release closer to what Snyder envisioned.
The effort paid off in May when Warner Bros announced that Snyder would return to oversee a new cut, set to release in 2021 on HBO Max. The project is set to air as four parts. While plot details remain vague, Snyder has previously said that his version of the 2017 film will contain nothing from Whedon's reshoots. The project also features Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher and Amber Heard.
