IUB celebrates Nazrul Jayanti on National Level
The greatness of the national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam is not limited to his music, poetry or drama. He instigated a modern and liberal idealism, and contained unsurpassed philosophical archetypes.
Guests and speakers highlighted this to mark the 120th birth anniversary of our national poet, Kazi Nazrul Islam at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB) on Thursday, June 27, 2019. The event was jointly organised by the Department of English and Modern Languages at IUB, and Kazi Nazrul Islam-Abbasuddin Ahmed Research and Study Centre.
Asaduzzaman Noor, MP, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the event. Khilkhil Kazi, the granddaughter of the great poet, was also present as the Special Guest. National Professor Dr Anisuzzaman presided over the programme. Professor Milan Pagon, acting Vice Chancellor, IUB was also present, and spoke at the event.
During the celebration, the book titled Kazi Nazrul Islam: Poetry, Plotics, Passion, edited by Professor Niaz Zaman, Advisor, Department of English and Modern Languages at IUB, was launched. The Chief Guest stated that presently, extremism and impatience prevails everywhere, but it would be mitigated if everyone was more familiarised with Nazrul’s creations. Ms Khilkhil Kazi urged the new generation to follow Nazrul’s ideology, and thereby create their own path. Dr Anisuzzaman revered Nazrul for his patriotism, non-communal and humanitarian ideology. The celebration included more speeches by scholars, namely Professor Mohitul Islam and Devjani Sengupta, Nazrul Researcher, West Bengal, India. Towhid Bin Muzaffar, Head, Department of English and Modern Languages delivered a vote of thanks.
The celebration included a colourful cultural programme, compered by Ms Sadya Afreen Mallick, Nazrul Awardee. Sadya Afreen Mallick, Yasmin Mushtary and other prominent singers performed Nazrul Sangeet on the day. Recitations, dance and other cultural activities were also presented by students of IUB. The grand celebration of Nazrul Jayanti at IUB was held in the presence of honorable trustees, deans, members of the faculty and administration of IUB, as well as students and distinguished guests.
