In fond memory of Humayun Faridee
Humayun Faridee entertained audiences for years, with his brilliance on the stage, television and the silver screen. The eminent actor passed away on this day in 2012.
He earned accolades as a theatre actor, appearing in many popular productions of Dhaka Theatre.
He won the hearts of millions with his role as "Kaankata Romjan" in the popular BTV show, "Shongshoptok". Although he made his debut in films as the main protagonist in "Dohon", he was well-known for his villainous roles.
Noted artistes Ferdousi Majumdar, Asaduzzaman Noor, and Raisul Islam Asad, who worked closely with Faridee, looked back on their fond memories with him, on his death anniversary.
"I met Faridee on the sets of 'Shongshoptok', we worked together and built a great bond. I admired his talent," shared Ferdousi Majumdar.
"He was a humorous man who could make anyone laugh. His wit was unparalleled. While shooting for 'Shongshoptok', Abdullah Al Mamun often got mad at us because we were always laughing so much all the time, but it never worked. Mamun bhai even made us sit separately during rehearsals, but then, we started passing notes to each other!"
She further said that Faridee's simplicity was similar to that of a child. "He respected me a lot. When we were shooting for the film 'Mayer Odhikar', he never sat on a chair in front of me. He made me sit on his chair. He had a separate chair on the sets, which noted artistes like him usually do," she added.
"Faridee, Suborna, and I went out one day. A fan recognised him, and yelled out, 'There goes 'Kaankata Romjan'! He got a bit angry hearing that. At the time, we made him realise that it is his achievement as an actor. I miss him very much. He left us too soon."
Faridee shared a close bond with eminent actor and Member of Parliament Asaduzzaman Noor. They first worked together in a short film by Tanvir Mokammel, before collaborating on many more projects.
"Everybody knows that he is one of the greatest actors that we have ever had. He used to tell me, 'Noor bhai, I can't do anything else, other than acting. I want to keep acting till my last breath," said Asaduzzaman Noor.
"When 'Shongshoptok' was on the air, my son Sudipto was very young. He was scared of 'Kaankata Romjan'. When I shared this with Faridee, he came to my place and spent some time with Sudipto. He played with my son, and told him that there is nothing to be scared of, as he is just his uncle. Surprisingly, after that, Sudipto was never scared of him again. Faridee was a loving and caring man."
Asaduzzaman Noor further said that Faridee's contribution in the theatre arena is unparalleled.
"Faridee was a very happy person, and the centre of attention at every gathering. He will always hold a special place in our hearts," he added.
Raisul Islam Asad and Faridee collaborated on plays for Dhaka Theatre. "Shakuntala" was their first play together.
"We worked together on television as well. He could fit into any role effortlessly. He was a powerful actor," said Raisul Islam Asad.
"We spent a major part of our lives together. I feel that Faridee had a lot left to offer as an artiste. His demise is a great loss for all of us. I miss him dearly."
