EMK Center organises a virtual exhibition to celebrate Earth Day
Every year April 22 is observed as Earth Day, celebrating the promise to support environmental protection across the world. In order to commemorate the day, Project WE, a youth-led organisation working to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, collaborated with EMK Center to organise a painting and digital art competition. Earlier this month, EMK Center initiated a virtual exhibition demonstrating the top 30 works submitted. The theme of the event was "Environment, Climate and Planet" and the works on display include paintings, illustrations and infographics posters.
Apart from tackling the worldwide health crisis, nature is also aching with wildfire and extreme heat, floods, hurricanes, marine pollution, deforestation, wildlife trading and biodiversity loss. The artworks beautifully illustrate the existential threat of climate disruption and the importance of protecting nature. "Restore the Mother Nature, 2021", by Nishat Tasnim, depicts the significance of saving the planet. "Every single element of nature works as a strong weapon against pollution. In order to eradicate pollution, we need to restore our nature and protect these elements," she shared.
Md Yeasin Arafat's "The Time" describes how the world heals itself without human interference. "The pandemic has locked up humans in cages and turned the world greener. I tried to address this thought through my work," he explained. Another participant, Rifah Tasnia Ahmed, submitted an infographics exploring the effect of climate change on habitat destruction. The colourful poster highlights the urgency of action to combat climate change by implying its consequences.
"The aim of this virtual exhibition is to raise awareness about climate change and environmental issues. In order to cultivate the required awareness, creative steps like these are necessary," shared Sayed Mohammad Mahbubul Islam Tahsin, Social Media Coordinator, EMK Center. The virtual exhibition will conclude today.
