Dhrumel artistes celebrate their seventh anniversary virtually
The artistic community Dhrumel celebrated their seventh anniversary recently from their Facebook page, 'Dhrumel Project', with some renowned artistes and dancers. The online festival featured live sessions with artistes from the Manipuri community. The founder of Shadhona and Dhrumel, Lubna Marium, delivered the inaugural speech at the event.
Dhrumel is a project which aims to promote the Manipuri culture, including their music, dance and other practices. Through this project, eminent Manipuri dancer Sweety Das Choudhury teaches Manipuri dance and pung player Brojen Kumar from Manipur, India, teaches pung to the Manipuri people in Sylhet. With support from Shadhona, Das has created many productions from traditional Manipuri music through this project, including Bangshi Anurag, Premammritam, Radha Ranir Astoprahar, Ratho Jatra and many more. Radha Ranir Ashtoprahar was presented at the Khajuraho Dance Festival in India.
Shri Gurumayum Biseshwor Sharma, son of Padmashri and Sangeet Natak Akademi Awardee, G Gourakishor Sharma, talked about Thang-ta, the martial art form of Manipur, at the celebrations, where eminent cultural personality and Member of Parliament Asaduzzaman Noor and Liaquat Ali Lucky, Director General, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, were also present. Das anchored the live sessions. Several artistes and students of Dhrumel took part in the festival.
Dhrumel is actively promoting the Manipuri culture and working to encourage young dancers and artistes, even in these tough times.
